  • 4 large large apples Royal Gala is preferred for sweetness; Granny Smith gives a tart balance.
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar Dark brown sugar gives more depth.
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Add a pinch more for extra flavor.
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts Pecans or rolled oats can be used as substitutes.
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Lurpak is recommended for better taste.
  • Caramel drizzle Store-bought is fine.
  • Optional: vanilla ice cream Everything is better with ice cream.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) and slice off the top inch of each apple and scoop out the core.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts until well mixed.
  3. Generously spoon the filling into each apple, heaping it a bit over the top.
  4. Place each apple in a baking dish, cut small pieces of butter and place them on top of each apple, then add half an inch of water to the bottom of the dish.
  5. Cover the apples with foil for the last half of baking if they start to burn.

Notes
