Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Use whatever’s on sale; no fancy brands needed.
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Give it a good stir before measuring to avoid clumps.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Don't forget this part!
  • 1/4 tsp salt Sea salt recommended for extra zing.
  • 1 tsp baking powder Helps the waffles puff up.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup melted butter Can brush some on the waffle maker for extra flavor.
  • 2 large eggs Crack them carefully to keep them whole.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Nielsen-Massey recommended for a touch of fancy.
Add-Ins
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Enjoy straight from the bag if you want!

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your waffle maker according to its instructions.
Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
Mix the Wet Ingredients
  1. In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, and stir to combine. Do not overmix!
  2. Add in chocolate chips while the batter rests.
Cook the Waffles
  1. Lightly grease the waffle iron and ladle in the batter.
  2. Cook according to the maker’s instructions, usually about 3–5 minutes.
Serving
  1. Carefully remove the waffles and stack them on a plate. Top with desired toppings like chocolate chips, whipped cream, or fruits.

Notes
