Ingredients
  

For the Chicken and Marinade
  • 500 g chicken breast, sliced thinly Free-range chicken recommended
  • 2 tbsp olive oil Add a little extra for good measure
  • 1 tsp dried oregano Essential for authentic Greek flavor
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Use more if desired
  • Salt and pepper to taste Very important!
  • 4 pitas, warmed Pre-made pitas recommended
Toppings
  • sliced cucumbers Use as much as desired
  • sliced tomatoes Add for freshness
  • sliced red onion For added flavor
  • feta cheese, crumbled Essential for authentic gyros
For the Tzatziki Sauce
  • 1 cup Greek yoghurt Rich and creamy recommended
  • 1 small cucumber, grated and strained Straining is crucial
  • 1 clove garlic, minced Add more if desired
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Adds zest
  • Salt to taste Adjust according to preference

Method
 

Marinade the Chicken
  1. In a bowl, combine the chicken slices with olive oil, oregano, garlic, salt, and pepper. Toss well to coat.
  2. Let the chicken marinate for at least an hour.
Prepare the Tzatziki
  1. Grate the cucumber and strain it, then mix it with the Greek yoghurt, minced garlic, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt.
Cook the Chicken
  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add the marinated chicken. Cook evenly until golden brown on both sides.
Assemble the Gyros
  1. On each warmed pita, add a generous layer of tzatziki, followed by the chicken, veggies, and crumbled feta.
  2. Wrap each gyro in foil for easy eating, if desired.

Notes
