Ingredients

  • 2 large oranges Use fresh organic oranges for best results.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar A standard sweetener for the candy.
  • 1 cup water Tap or filtered water works fine.
  • 1/2 tsp salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1 tsp lemon juice Adds a zing of flavor.
  • as needed powdered sugar for dusting Optional, for serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Wash the oranges thoroughly and slice them into thin rounds.
Boiling Oranges
  1. Place the sliced oranges in a medium saucepan, cover with water, and boil for about 10 minutes. Drain and repeat this process two more times.
Simmer in Sugar
  1. After draining, return the oranges to the saucepan and add sugar, water, and salt. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
Check the Temperature
  1. Monitor the thermometer; the candy mixture should reach about 230°F (110°C).
Dip and Set
  1. Dip each slice in powdered sugar and lay them out on parchment paper to cool completely.
Serve
  1. Arrange the cooled candy in a cute jar for presentation.
