Ingredients

For the dough
  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour Plain old Tesco flour works great!
  • 1 packet active dry yeast This is the magic ingredient!
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar Add more if you're feeling rebellious.
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt Sea salt is preferred.
  • 0.5 cups milk Measure carefully.
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Butter is life!
  • 1 large egg Provides fluffiness.
For the filling
  • 0.5 cups packed brown sugar The darker, the better!
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon Can substitute with pumpkin spice or nutmeg.
  • 1 cups chopped pecans Chopped walnuts can be used as a substitute.
For the glaze
  • 1 cup maple syrup A delightful addition for flavor.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Whisk with maple syrup and a dash of milk.

Method

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, the yeast, sugar, and salt. Stir well then add the milk, melted butter, and egg. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough
  1. Dust a counter with flour, transfer the dough, and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let It Rise
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rest until it doubles in size (about 1 hour).
Prepare the Filling
  1. Mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans in a bowl. Set aside.
Roll It Out
  1. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 12x18 inches.
Spread the Filling
  1. Spread melted butter over the rolled dough, then sprinkle the filling mixture across the top, leaving a small border around the edges.
Roll and Slice
  1. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log and pinch the edges to seal. Slice into 12 pieces and place cut side up in a greased baking dish.
The Second Rise
  1. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for 30-40 minutes until puffed up.
Bake Time!
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25 minutes, until golden brown.
Make the Glaze
  1. Whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, and a dash of milk until smooth.
Glaze It Up
  1. Drizzle the glaze over the cinnamon rolls once they are out of the oven and cooled for a few minutes.

Notes

If you burn the bottom, let them cool slightly and peel off the burnt parts. You can cover it with more glaze. If you run out of pecans, chopped walnuts can be used as a substitute.
