  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-process is preferred.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda Check expiration date.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Sea salt recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon red food colouring Essential for red velvet effect.
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar Helps brownies rise.
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips Optional for added texture.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until well combined. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt over the wet mixture and gently fold until just combined.
  5. Stir in the red food colouring and vinegar until blended.
  6. Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking around 25 minutes for doneness with a toothpick.
  2. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes
